While procrastinating from working on the studio, I sat down for a minute to check email. I was quickly informed by belle that I needed to sit still with her for a while. So I figured it was time to report in on the blog. Photoless for now. When she has decided that she is done with me I will try to grab the camera card reader!
A week at the beach is really good therapy. Throw in access to a stitchery shop, a yarn shop, and an outlet mall and you have a great vacation. My pasty white legs are no longer pasty, not golden brown but at least not glow-in-the-dark white. And I didn't come back burned. The fact that it was really hot helped, I only spent about 2 hours a day on the beach toasting myself. The water was warm, but encounters with jellyfish and fish checking me out left me less than enamored with the gulf.
While the goal of vacation is usually to not accomplish anything, I did make progress:
Spinning:
I finished and plyed the August Spunky Ecletic fiber of the month club shetland.
Stitching:
Mom and I hit the "local" shop which turned out to be closed! But the owner was inside and let us come in and play anyway. Much stash was acquired - Just Nan, canvas,and a bunch of other stuff I can't reach right now.
I did the center grid for my "One" stitching project, the Nativity by Marbek. Its on Navy blue and the less than great lighting detoured me from actually starting it.
I also started the Winter Hardanger Tea tray from Lorri Birmingham.
As part of the stitchery shop haul, we got these little things. The shop owner got me started on one and I am almost halfway through.
Knitting:
The triangle shawl in alpaca is about halfway, I think.
The local yarn shop (Unwind) happened to be down the road from the local stitchery shop so I picked up a wonderful Namaste messenger bag, three balls of rowan tapestry and five balls of rowan kidsilk haze. The shop is small, but wonderful - a large worktable, walls of yarn (rowan, cashmere), and lots of books. If I lived in the area, I would want to live in this store! They also carry louet rovings, but since I just got a bunch from Spunky Eclectic and Matahari Spinnery I managed to resist. Plus I really like to get yarns that I can't get easily at home.
The cats have been very clingy since we got back home. I have two more days of vacation - today to get my hair colored, oil for the car, a few returns. Tomorrow for lunch with my grandmother and a massage. The rest of the time will be cleaning, tossing, and moving. And maybe a little weaving!
Weaving is rapidly becoming a new obsession. The day after getting home, I drove a huge vehicle for 6 hours to pick up and bring back a new to me eight harness Baby Wolf. OK, huge may be overstating it since the baby wolf is not that huge. But when you drive a Camaro and rent a TrailBlazer, the world looks a little different!
I've bought some weaving yarn which should be arriving at my house any day now. My messy house that is in mid-reorganization that I should be working on. But I'm not. I just can't get the energy up to focus on it. So I cleaned the baby, sleyed the reed, attached the harnesses to the treadle, and figured out how things work.
And now, the cat is done with me so my time is up! Pictures to come eventually!
