First day on the road, heard from friends that indeed the shipment of handmaiden yarns showed up at my local shop. Luckily I had requested that she hold two skeins of sea silk for me!
In Memphis, after visiting with family, I tried out a Louet spinning wheel and am totally hooked! Picked up some fiber and the new rowan (so many projects, so little time!).
In Nashville, I did some brief yarn shopping, found a lot of great clothes in Opry Mills, and then spent the rest of the week at the Stitching Festival. Took several great classes and did a bit of shopping there as well! More types of projects on my list, punchneedle, stumpwork, and beadwork.
Our already full car is now really full.
Now, we are in Atlanta, to spend a some time with more family and then more SHOPPING! More of the stitching, knitting, and spinning variety!
Complete report when I get home!
Just haven't had much in the way of brainpower to compose complete sentences. I've been doing a lot more spinning and made this:
Bad photo, but that is a merino/silk blend I got from Kendig Cottage. I love, love, love this roving!!! I am spinning up more now. I also spun and plied the remaining green roving from Cherry Tree Hill that I posted about earlier.
I also got this roving, that looks much much better in person:
That's all for now, more updates from the road! My vacation officially starts tomorrow!!!!!
As my previous post indicated, I am getting the hang of spinning and am well on the way to a serious addiction. Here's a daylight version of my first yarn!
That's some roving from Cherry Tree Hill labeled only as 54 micron roving. I got two colorways of this roving and have spun up the other colorway as well.
It did not ply as well as the green colorway so I need to soak it and see if it will straighten out. My knitting focus has been on the Sweet Thing Shawl. I've joined in the second ball and think I am close to the halfway point. I love how this is looking!
Needless to say, I'm not progressing nearly as far as I had hoped on the UFO August knit-along, but I do think I will complete this one and hopefully the felted bag I've had underway.
I can't believe that it is just another week and a half before I hit the road! I have a list of stitching and yarn shops that I plan to visit en route and on the way home. I also am hoping that the owner of the local shop here gets her order from Handmaiden before I go.
I'm a Ferrari 360 Modena!
You've got it all. Power, passion, precision, and style. You're sensuous, exotic, and temperamental. Sure, you're expensive and high-maintenance, but you're worth it.
